Photo Album of African American Military Family Life in Ohio, 1980s-90s
Photo Album
Photo Album of African American military family from Toledo, Ohio. 1980-90s. 85 photos, most of them polaroids, showing family life, a vacation to a Las Vegas casino, school graduations and military service. Blue spiral-bound album measures 10 x 11.5 inches. Photos mounted to 10 pages. Album also includes ID cards, studio portraits and a school class picture, and is decorated throughout with colorful stickers and handwritten photo captions. 3 photos show man in military uniform posing with his rifle. One image shows a small boy sitting in a brightly painted toy trolley car on what appears to be a carousel, leaning out of the window to wave happily as he passes the photographer. Another photo shows a woman with loosely curled afro, smiling into the camera, her arms around two laughing boys, maybe her sons. Album includes a photocopied memo from the Brandon House Emergency Shelter with rules and regulations for what appears to be a group home for mothers in crisis. Phone numbers are written in pen on the inside of both covers and photographs throughout show a closeknit family with supportive community around them. Some small stains to photos do not obscure images. Some photos overexposed or underexposed. Staining to covers. Overall good condition.Item #18441
