1919 Post WWI Photo Archive American Soldiers in France Album with an African American Soldier
Photo Archive
WWI American soldiers archive of 64 black and white silver gelatin photographs. The photos were taken in France and includes one German calendar "December and November 1919" with personal handwriting of American soldiers’ names and addresses. Most photos measure 2.5" x 3". The photo archive begins with a series of war torn stone buildings and small French villages with American soldiers amidst the wreckage. One interesting photo shows an African American soldier posed stoically, rifle relaxed over shoulder, in front of a dilapidated bunker. Many of the other photos depict men in uniform posing next to their 1919 trucks. Some soldiers are seen in front of French ambulances. There are a few peculiar photos of men in American uniforms wearing the German pickelhaube helmet in a playful manner, probably taken off a fallen German soldier. Overall, very good condition. $2,500.Item #18432
