Photo album with images from the aircraft carrier USS Princeton as well as GI's in China and Japan. World War II. 139 photos mounted to 49 leaves. Brown leather album measuring 11 x 7 inches with gilt map of Hawaiian islands on front cover and text reading "Aloha Hawaii." Photo measurements range from 3 x 2 to 9 x 6.75 inches. Images show the aircraft carrier USS Princeton with fighter planes flying overhead, close ups of planes and helicopters on deck and taking off, as well as aerial views of Tsingtao, China, city views and port scenes. Photos also include G.I's posing together and with their girlfriends, scenes onboard and on land, as well as some family photos mixed throughout. One image shows a Navy officer and a sailor standing over three Chinese women as they weave yarn through loom. Another photo shows soldiers in a boxing ring, one man bent to deflect the other's blow, a sea of Navy whites watching in the background. Many images of sailors in China, posing on rickshaws and on city streets surrounded by locals. Photos include handwritten captions. During World War II, the USS Princeton, an independence-class light aircraft carrier, provided air cover throughout the Pacific islands and conducted strikes on enemy installations, earning 9 battle stars. Front cover binding cracked but intact. Light sunning to some images. Pages all intact and well preserved. Overall very good condition.
