When the United States Army was reorganized in 1821, the Ordnance and Artillery Departments were merged with Colonel Comford promoted to full colonel and attached to the artillery. In 1823 the United States was fighting the Arikara Indians in the first plains Indian War and asserting control of the Western Hemisphere against further colonization by European powers. This text breaks down cost and quantity of artillery required by Bomford to support military efforts in the American west. Toning around edges does not affect text. Front page detached.
