Although women did own and operate businesses during the 19th century, many of them were apprenticed or self-taught as educational opportunities were limited. For a graduating class to include women at all much less 5 makes this group exceptionally scarce. Financial independence through business acumen provides a level of freedom women were not often allowed within a patriarchal society as rigid as 19th century America. Dampstains to side of photographer mat board, does not affect photographic image. Toning and foxing to mat. One corner clipped. Light sunning. Features are crisp and details clear. Overall very good condition.
