Free Angela Davis Handbill, 1971

Handbill

"Labor's Stake in the Fight to Free Angela Davis," Chicago: National Coordinating Committee for Trade Union Action and Democracy, 1971. Four panel handbill. 8.5" x 11" inches. Black and white photo on front page shows Davis speaking into a hand-held microphone with the text "Free Angela Davis" below. Inside of handbill reads in part "The imprisonment and frame-up of Angela Davis has become a symbol of the brazen racist repression that is sweeping our country today...just as the Haymarket Victims were framed and hanged for leading the eight-hour-day fight, and for protesting police violence, so the government is framing Dr. David because of her strong and solid leadership for penal reform and the rights of all oppressed." Black and white photos of other jailed movement leaders including Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin luther King Jr. One black and white photo of Davis is surrounded with messages of solidarity written in languages from around the globe. Joining black liberation with the labor movement helped to galvanize groups with shared interests across causes. The arrest, incarceration and trial of Angela Davis became a transnational movement calling marginalized groups worldwide to action and shaping twentieth century activism. Clean and bright. Very good condition.
