LGBTQ Early Lesbian Pulp: Strange Embrace

First Edition

[LGBTQ] Strange Embrace, Ben Christopher. Universal Publishing and Distributing Corporation: 1962. First edition. Mass market paperback. 160 pages. Measures 4.25" x 7" in. Ben Christopher is the one-time pseudonym of Lawrence Block who only used it for this text. The book is a pulp fiction murder mystery with early lesbian romance elements. Attractive red cover shows two women in burlesque costumes, one sitting at a dressing table while the other reclines behind her, watching, text below the title reading, "What unholy bonds held two beautiful actresses in a drama that had no part for male actors?" Pulp fiction is a term used to refer to cheap texts considered lowbrow by literary critics but by virtue of their popularity, this genre is often at the forefront of shifts in public opinion particularly around subjects considered taboo. Strange Embrace was written as a tie-in to the television series Johnny Midnight. Printed across the bottom of front cover, "NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED! A BRILLIANT NOVEL ABOUT THE LOVE SOCIETY RECOGNIZES BUT CANNOT FORGIVE!" Very good condition.
