Victoria Woodhull's Presidential Campaign Newspaper, 1872

Newspaper

[Victoria Woodhull] New York Tribune, May 11, 1872. Folded measures 12" x 18" inches. Includes short coverage of Victoria Woodhull's presidential run. Woodhull was the first woman to run for president and did so almost fifty years before the 19th amendment passed in 1920 giving women the right to vote. A leader in women's suffrage and proponent of radical social change, generally, Woodhull was a magnetic healer, spiritualist and for awhile a supporter of free love, twice married herself. This newspaper gives context for her run with the surrounding political and cultural climate as well as insight into the coverage her campaign received. Minor foxing and wear along exterior fold. Overall very good condition.
