Black student protest movement 1971, Dikran Karagueuzian Signed first edition
First Edition
African-American Student Protest Text by Dikran Karagueuzian, Blow It Up! Boston: Gambit, Incorporated, 1971. First edition with modern signature. Quarto. Dustjacket with photograph from black student protest at San Francisco State University. The yearlong conflict at San Francisco State College was the first attempt by black student militants to control an American college and helped form strategy for later strikes. Because Dikran was the black student editor for the college paper he gained access to leaders famously suspicious of speaking with the press. His account provides unique insight into the inner workings of the group and in-the-moment accounts of the protest. The book also includes a powerful speech Stokely Carmichael gave to a closed gathering of militants on the eve of the strike. Front top of dust jacket shows two inch-long tears with smaller tears on outer jacket hinge, sunning on hinge bleached white with letters barely visible. Boards in very good condition with minor toning on tail. Title page signed by the author with the inscription "great talking with you" dated January 2015. Sporadic red underlining with several notes throughout. Pages are very clean. An important study of the inner-life of the black student protest during a formative point in the movement foreshadowing future, more famous protests. Very good later signed first edition.Item #17751
