Original stereoview photograph dating from the late 19th century of a Texas Ranger holding his rifle and aiming, ready to shoot. circa 1880. Dolgeville, measures 7" x 3.5" inches. Publisher's info on recto. Contemporary manuscript on verso reads "a long shot from the saddle." The rifle he is aiming with appears to the be standard issue Winchester 1873 that the Rangers used until their adoption of the Winchester 1895. photo is clear aside from some minor fading to one of the two images. Texas Rangers patrolled the Texas-Mexico border, fought in military battles, and arrested cattle rustlers. They protected settlers and enforced laws, but also sometimes executed thieves without a trial, drove Native American tribes from their homelands. Image overall in very good condition.
