"The Liberated Guardian" Protests Sexism and Vietnam

Two Well-preserved issues of this left-wing publication founded in the Spring of 1970, when a group of Guardian NY workers who went on strike and decided to start a new, collectively-run newspaper. New York: Guardian Workers' Collective, Two issues, the first is a April 15, 1971. 24 pages. There were allegations of sexism and exploitation, and while both left publications, there were strong political differences between the offended faction and the mother publication. Guardian offices were seized for a time in the dispute by the faction that went on to produce this newspaper. (Not to be confused with the longstanding British newspaper of the same name.} This issue's cover features an image of the woman's gender symbol crushing the Pentagon in its fist. This issue has a strong feminist angle. It features an article of feminists protesting abuse of prostitutes, announces a Women's March on the Pentagon, has a section of street protest songs from a feminist perspective including a modern feminist adaptation of Battle Hymn of the Republic, and more. There is also an 8-page supplement on revolutionary art, including an insert on "revolutionary cinema" that extensively references the Third Cinema movement that was emerging in Latin America as well as the work of Jean Luc-Godard. with New York: Guardian Workers' Collective, November 25, 1970. 24 pages This edition of the Liberated Guardian features stories on left wing guerilla forces across the globe. The cover image displays raised fists of various hues clenching AK-47s, a symbol and a call for global revolution. Armed struggle was one of the key tenets of this editorial collective's political program, emblematic of the youthful militancy of the New Left, Provisional Revolutionary Government (NLF-PRG) of South Vietnam and other anti estab;ishement organizations are listed on the front cover. Also features an article on Gene Roberts, a NYPD detective that was once Malcolm X's bodyguard and also had infiltrated and informed on the Black Panthers. Overall toned but the newspapers are both still in very good condition.
