"Snow White," Storybook First Edition, 1900

First Edition

Laura E. Richards. Snow White; or, the House in the Wood. Boston: Dana Estes & Company Publishers, 1900. First edition. Frontispiece illustration of Snow White as a young girl walking in a forest. 7.75 x 5.5 inches. Original, illustrated green cloth boards. 93 pages. Front cover decorated with illustrated forest. Uncommon early appearance of Snow White, the character that became famous in Walt Disney’s first animated feature film over 30 years later. In this iteration, the Dwarves names are not yet established, and they go by names such as Yellow Dwarf or Mark, rather than the more famous monikers from the Disney film. The seven dwarfs were first given individual names first in the 1912 Broadway play Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and then given different names in Walt Disney's 1937 film of the same name Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Contemporary gift inscription on front endpaper. Light shelfwear and some wear to the front cover otherwise very good condition.
