Sheet size: approx. 32 x 25 cm.The Engraving shows the center of the Forbidden City as the palatial heart of China. Constructed in 1420, during the early Ming Dynasty, it is China's best-preserved imperial palace, and the largest ancient palatial structure in the world. We see the huge royal courtyard in the center and the emperors palatial buildings surrounding it. This plate has been published in the First French edition of Abbè Presvost’s “Histoire Générale des Voyages”, published by Didot at Paris, 1746-1758.Source: The Histoire Géneral des Voyages was a monumental eighteenth century general history divided according to geographic region. The original volumes were written by Antoine François Prévost d'Exiles.
