"Aim High! Ed Hillary"

ANS

First man to climb Mt. Everest. On 29 May 1953, Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. AQS On Hillary's illustrated letterhead as chairman of the Sherpa Hospital Appeal Committee. The letterhead includes an outline of Himalayan mountains. Hillary writes in his hand: "Aim High ! Ed Hillary." We can not think of a more fitting quote from the first man who climbed the highest mountain on earth.

Tenzing in his 1955 autobiography wrote that Hillary took the first step onto the summit and he followed. They reached Everest's 29,028 ft (8,848 m) summit – the highest point on earth – at 11:30 am. They spent about 15 minutes at the summit. Hillary took a photo of Tenzing posing with his ice-axe, but there is no photo of Hillary. BBC News attributed this to Tenzing's having never used a camera; Tenzing's autobiography says that Hillary simply declined to have his picture taken. After Hillary climbed Everest in 1953, he led many further expeditions to Nepal. From the early 1960s, these expeditions had a focus on improving the health and social welfare of the people of Nepal, including the provision of medical care. Hillary spent much of the rest of his life to building schools and hospitals for the Sherpa people of Nepal.
