Alexandra Tillson, the first girl to enroll in the school of Mineral Industries at Penn State with Dean Edward Steidle who is showing her around the school’s Museum of Minerals. Miss Tillson is taking the metallurgy curriculum which deals with the study of iron and non-ferrous metals. She is the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Tillson, noted mining engineer of Montclair, N.J. Miss Tillson can’t be discouraged from pursuing a study which may eventually take her to the steel mills or to the mines. 10/17/34.” The Steidle Building, one of the most iconic pieces of architecture at Penn State was named in honor of Dean Steidle (pictured with Tillson).
