Emmeline Pankhurst, is best remembered for organizing the UK suffragette movement and helping women win the right to vote. In 1999, Time named her as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century Founding the WSPU in 1903, Pankhurst believed that women needed a party designed to promote their own causes; under her leadership, a record number of activists mobilized across England under the banner "Votes for Women." Contains 10 rare vintage pieces directly related to the WSPU's successful fight for women's rights, with the majority featuring the organization's famed purple, green, and white color scheme. Celebrating her role as an organizer and speaker, the collection includes a large Pankhurst signed portrait. Emmeline Pankhurst and the WSPU became England's best known and most effective feminist group. It victoriously gained enfranchisement for women in 1928; in doing so, it opened the door to women's social empowerment not only in voting, but also through improved education and employment opportunities. Though Pankhurst herself died only weeks before the suffrage bill passed, she and the WSPU remain the heroes who achieved "Votes for Women."
