Pearl Buck. First American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature and the second woman overall. Buck asks an editor to publish a piece “to the colored people of this country”. Typed letter signed on Buck’s letterhead for 40 East 49th Street, New York N.Y. February 25, 1942. Measures 8” x 9.75” inches. Buck’s letter reads: “To the Editor: Enclosed is something which I should like to say to the colored people of this country. I am sending copies of this letter to all colored journals, and shall be glad to have you use it if you wish, on or after February 28th. Sincerely yours,” she signs in large, elegant script, “Pearl S. Buck”. In the United States, February is designated "Black History Month". Buck was a lifelong activist, and her advocate work extended to adoption, immigration, and anti-War efforts.Item #16692
