Vintage original Gelatin silver print press photo. Marjorie Crawford, woman aviator. May 23, 1929. 8 ½ x 6 ½ in. Black and white photo of Marjorie Crawford standing beside an airplane. Pencil inscription on back (in part): "Marjorie Crawford Aviator". Marjorie Crawford was one of the first women aviators, active during the early 1930s into the late 1930s. She was a member of the Ninety-Nines, a woman pilot's club headed by Amelia Earhart, which sought to ensure "good fellowship, jobs, and a central office and files on women in aviation." These original press photo taken by photojournalist within tight timeframe for the benefit of particular editorial board and with the aim of usage by the press to illustrate an article often affected public opinion in the nation. Small tear to right edge margin, not affecting image. Inscriptions and press stamps on back. Very good.Item #16477
