Broadside

[Guns] "No Shooting on These Premises". Original Broadside, Phoenix, Arizona: G.G. Morgan Ptg. Co., 1920. . Larger format 12" x 8-3/4" inch broadside printed on linen cloth. This broadside was issued in the early years of Arizona's statehood, whose constitution gave citizens the right to bear arms in 1910. Phoenix rose from just 7 miles in 1915 to over 35 miles in 1920 and as it became more urban another important factor in Phoenix, and in the entire United States in the 1920s, was the Prohibition of Alcohol. Like in the rest of the country, Prohibition encouraged bootlegging and organized crime. Our sign is an interesting memorabilia from that era. Overall in very good condition Light soiling, light fraying to edges.
