Woman Suffrage Is Cornerstone of the True Republic, 1915

First Edition

[Women Suffrage] Temple of the True Republic Woman Suffrage. Pamphlet appeals to the “Men of Massachusetts” to vote yes on women’s suffrage on November 2, 1915. First edition. 8 pages. Original paper wrappers. 10 x 6 ¾ in. Staplebound. The front cover features an engraving of a Greek temple, named the “Temple of the True Republic,” with the cornerstone labeled “Woman Suffrage 1915”. “Men of Massachusetts: The women of Massachusetts are making this appeal to you to grant them the same rights under the law as are now enjoyed by the women of California, Washington, Kansas, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Neada, Arizona, Oregon and Illinois. If you feel that your mother, your wife, your daughter can be trusted to vote honestly and for the best interests of the home, the children and the state that we all love, show your belief in them by marking your ballot with a...YES on the Amendment enabling women to vote.” “We have confidence in the mature judgment of the men of Massachusetts and trust that any spectacular attempt to defeat the Suffrage Amendment will be given to consideration by the clear thinking electorate of our state.” Interior pages include various small articles and appeals, listing others who support women’s suffrage and even including a poem and cartoon comparing Paul Revere’s ride to the fight for women’s suffrage. Even toning. Two horizontal fold lines. Good condition. Women’s suffrage did not pass in Massachusetts at this time, but still a rare piece of history that documents various local appeals for women’s voting rights. At the time that this description is being written, just one copy recorded worldwide as per OCLC. OCLC search results are at best an estimate and can vary over time.
