ANTHONY, Susan B. Signed Edition of History of Woman's Suffrage Volumes I and II.

First Edition

Signed First Edition of History of Woman's Suffrage Volumes I and II. An important early history of women's suffrage written by notable participants Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Matilda Joslyn Gage. New York: Fowler & Wells, 1881 & 1882. First Edition, First Printing. Two volumes. Signature on card "Susan B. Anthony Rochester N.Y. Nov. 25, 1902". Complete as published, but expanded until 1922 to eventually include six volumes, long after the initial participants were dead. Today, this work is considered to be the major source for primary documentation about the women's suffrage movement from its beginnings through the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which enfranchised women in the U.S. in 1920. Volumes I chronicles the women's suffrage movement from 1848 - 1861 and Volume II continues from 1861 - 1876. Illustrated with steel engravings. Library stamp on title page. Tastefully rebound in blue cloth boards with contrasting gilt-lettered morocco spine labels. Very good condition.
