Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage letterhead. Typed Circular Letter Signed in type by Vice Chairwoman Lucy Burns. May 18, 1914. Washington, DC. 2 pages. Pioneering suffragist Lucy Burns encourages women to write to their elected officials. Burns, who founded the Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage, wrote this letter to suffragist members to encourage them to write to the members of the House Rules Committee to ask that the suffrage resolution be reported favorably. The goal, as Lucy Burns states in the letter, is to “make it impossible for the Democratic majority controlling the Rules Committee to smother discussion on the Suffrage question.” Near fine condition, period folds from mailing. Letter is signed in type by Lucy Burns.
