BLACKWELL, Alice Stone. (1857-1950), Woman Suffrage Leader And Editor, Daughter Of Henry Blackwell And Lucy Stone. ALS, 1p, in pencil: SEPTEMBER 12, 1923. Alice Stone Blackwell writes in her hand: "Dear Howard, thanks for the checks. All's prepared for Kitty to start tomorrow. Lizzie Rogers is all used up and has put in today resting. Your aff. cousin, Alice." Blackwell graduated from Boston University and then went to work at the Woman's Journal, the Woman Suffrage newspaper, which she edited for 35 years. Brought about a truce between the American Woman Suffrage Association and the National Woman Suffrage Association and when they merged became the recording secretary of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. She helped found the League of Women Voters after adoption of the 19th amendment.Item #15994
