Maya Angelou Personally Owned First Edition with Her Bookplate

First Edition

[ANGELOU, Maya.] Schwartz, John Burnham. The Commoner. First Edition, 2008. From the Personal Library of Maya Angelou and originating from her estate. This volume has Angelou's personal yellow library bookplate on the inside front cover. Angelou's library was an incredibly important point of inspiration for the author. It reflected her varied tastes and interests, especially in stories of young women overcoming adversity. The Commoner tells the story of Haruko, the first non-aristocrat to marry into the Japanese royal family. There, she is met with suspicion and distaste, and must learn to draw on hidden reserves of strength to sustain herself and rise to meet the challenge that has become her life. In very good to fine condition. A First Edition with value in its association to one of the greatest American authors of the 20th Century.
