Harry T. Burn Writes of his Historic Vote to Extend Suffrage to Women: "I Would Do it Again, Women Ought to Have the Vote. I'm Glad I Helped."

BURN, Harry T. Typed Note Signed measuring 4" x 5". In response to the typed question "Is Harry Burn proud he helped American women win the right to vote?" the Tennessee State Representative responded in a typed statement "Sure I would do it again. All the dire consequences they threatened never happened. Women ought to have the vote. I'm glad I helped them get it." He signs in his hand "Harry Burn."

At a time when Southern men vehemently opposed the extension of suffrage to women, Tennessee was critical to the ratification of the 19th Amendment. According to Burn, when it came time to vote, he thought of his mother's advice and made history, using his vote to bring Tennessee in line with suffrage.
