Collection of two vintage optical lantern slides of Iran, circa 1900, each measuring approximately 3 1/4 by 4 inches. The photographs document village life, traditional architecture, commerce, and caravan transportation in Iran at the turn of the twentieth century. The first image depicts a busy open square within a mud-brick Iranian settlement. Villagers gather in small groups amid large sacks or bundles, suggesting a marketplace or caravan trading area. Men, women, and children occupy the square, providing an unusually detailed record of everyday social and commercial activity. In the background rises a prominent traditional wind tower, or badgir, an architectural feature strongly associated with Yazd and other hot, arid regions of central and southern Iran.

The second photograph shows several saddled camels resting within a walled village courtyard or caravan enclosure. One camel lies prominently in the foreground while additional animals and villagers gather beside the surrounding mud-brick structures. The image documents the continuing importance of camel caravans for the movement of goods and people across Iran before motorized transportation and modern road networks became widespread. Together, the two lantern slides offer evocative views of Iranian village society at a period when traditional caravan commerce, vernacular mud-brick architecture, and long-established patterns of regional transportation remained central to daily life. Scarce early photographic views of Iran, both in very good condition.
