Matted to an overall size of 11" x 15.5". Some scattered surface marks but overall in very good condition. Renoir relished the opportunity to paint women and children. Many of his likenesses were figure studies such as this one of a young girl wearing a leghorn hat. Typical of Renoir's technique after the mid-1880s, the child's face and hat are clearly outlined, and the surface of the canvas shows the broad, feathered brushwork of Impressionism. Comprised of painterly brushstrokes, shimmering light effects, this SIGNED image of Renoir's painting, which depicts a seated woman posing while donning an elegant hat, embodies all of the tenets of Impressionism. This Renoir image was selected by Norton Simon Museum in Los Angeles for their promotional posters.
