George Gershwin Signed 1936 Ravinia Festival Program

American composer known for musicals such as "Funny Face" and "Porgy and Bess" as well as popular songs including "I Got Rhythm" and "S Wonderful." Signed 1936 Ravinia Festival Program, 6" x 9". 8 pages total. The Ravinia Festival is the oldest outdoor music festival in North America and is lauded for presenting world-class music. The festival attracts about 600,000 listeners to some 120 to 150 events that span all genres from classical music to jazz to music theater over each three-month summer season. Over the years, the festival has hosted such luminaries as Louis Armstrong, The Ballet Russe, Luciano Berio, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, George Gershwin, Janis Joplin, Yo-Yo Ma, Luciano Pavarotti, Stephen Sondheim, Isaac Stern and Frank Zappa.

As listed in the program, on Saturday, July 25th 1936 at 8:30pm George Gershwin conducted and performed An American in Paris, Concerto for the piano in F, Suite from "Porgy and Bess", Rhapsody in Blue, and Gershwin Melody. Signed, "George Gershwin on the cover of the program, along with the signatures of several of the other festival performers. In very good condition with a few slight smudges on the cover. Gershwin's name has been circled in black felt pin several times inside the program and is underlined as well on the cover.

Maria Callas Signed Photo

World renowned Opera singer. Vintage 4" x 6" glossy Piccagliani portrait of Callas as Paolina, in Donizetti's Poliuto, boldly signed in black felt tip ink. In very good condition, with slight waviness along portions of the upper and lower edges and some moderate contrast to the first name of her signature where it is penned against the dark area of her gown. Poliuto, which opened the 1960-61 season at La Scala, would turn out to be the final new role sung by Callas onstage.

Louis Armstrong Inscribed Signed Photo

U.S. Jazz trumpet player. Vintage 8" x 10" glossy black and white full-length portrait, circa 1950, boldly inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To Peter/from/Louis Armstrong." In excellent condition, with edge wear; bends to three corners, with only the bend to the lower right corner slightly impinging on the background; and a diagonal bend at the lower left side of the image, working its way from the edge into the background and slightly detracting from this otherwise exceptional image of the premier jazz trumpeter of the 20th century.

Arturo Toscanini Inscribed Signed Portrait

Italian Musician and Composer. Vintage 8x10 matte finish sepia tone bust portrait of the fiery conductor, boldly inscribed in white ink, "To Edward Moore Cordially A Toscanini 5-11-929." Edward Moore was the music critic for "The Chicago Tribune." Very good condition, with smearing of ink on the word "Cordially" and the last three letters of the signature light but entirely readable.

Hank Williams Signed Book

One of the founders of modern country music, Williams began performing on the Alabama radio at age of 16. Signed Book, "Hank Williams Country Music Folio", 48 pages, 9 x 12", no date. Williams has signed on his photograph on page 10. Williams is shown posing with guitar in front of a microphone in cowboy attire. Signed in blue "Hank Williams." The book contains the music and lyrics of 20 songs including "I Saw The Light" and "Honky Tonk Blues." There are also many pictures of Williams in the book. The book has tape on the cover, creasing and edge wear, a few small tears, and the cover detached from interior pages. Overall in good condition. However, signature page is in excellent condition. Williams signature is scarce, due to him dying at the early age of 29.

Monterey Pop was the birth of Rock , the Monterey International Pop Festival laid the groundwork for future "love-ins" of the late 1960s with similar talent, including the Mamas and the Papas, Simon and Garfunkel, The Who, Jimi Hendrix Experience. MONTEREY POP: THE FILM a vital concert film expertly captures the essence of the music festival. The documentary contains some of the best performances of a decade that was principally defined by its music. The film has a hauntingly apt rendition from the Mamas and Papas of "California Dreaming." 2 Contracts, each 1 page dated March 1, 1978.
