Industry titan John D. Rockefeller signed 1888 Standard Oil Stock Certificate

American Industrialist and Philanthropist. Document Signed, secured by patterned embossing, Standard Oil Trust Stock Certificate, #A1151, "issued in lieu of certificate No. 461", one-page, 12" x 7-3/4" (with 3.75" x 7-3/4" attached receipt). The document reads in part: "This is to certify that / WC Andrews / is entitled to one hundred Shares in the equity to the property held by the Trustees of the Standard Oil Trust..." It is dated across the bottom, "...this 18th day of April A.D. 1888 at the City of New York." On verso, WC Andrews signed the transfer of the stock August 13, 1891. The Standard Oil Trust was formed in 1882 to consolidate Rockefeller's many holdings. It was dissolved in 1892 by decree of the Supreme Court acting under the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The certificate is stamped "Cancelled / Aug 24 1891" in the upper-left corner. Signed, "J. D. Rockefeller". Minor glue stains where the receipt was re-affixed to the certificate and light creasing, overall fine condition. A superb example of one of the rarest and most desirable of all American stock certificates, featuring the signature of the ultimate "Captain of Industry". Similar certificates sold at Mastro Auctions for $5,100.00 & $4,200.00.
